Pyke Phish Pharm started out with net pen aquaculture in both the St. Lawrence and St. Regis
rivers, under the direction of the Akwesasne Task Force on the Environment. We were among
several individuals in the community who had fingerlings supplied, along with food to see if we
could raise fish without pollution, to harvest size.

Fish Species

Pyke Phish Pharm started out in 1989, raising Atlantic Salmon,Coho Salmon, Rainbow Trout,Yellow Perch and Bullhead,with the support of AKWESASNE Task Force on the Environment ,Dr Joe Buttner and partially funded by Sea Grant. This was done due proximity to the National Priority Superfund site and two NYS Superfund sites in Massena

  • Female walleye

Egg Production

While it varies, a female walleye can contain 23,000 to 50,000 eggs per pound of body weight.

Fertilized Egg Release

We have been committed to the restocking of our waterways and would like to continue to advance our hatchery to a RAS or Recirculating Aquaculture System. This would enable us to have better control of biosecurity and day to day operations. This system would be contained in a shipping container that would be capable of holding 2 self cleaning 60 inch tanks and all the supporting equipment.
